Dan Ahlenius, pastor of Lake Chelan Baptist Church, Chelan, Washington recently gave a five part series of sermons that clearly present clear Biblical convictions in response to the deception of the Da Vinci Code.

Download these Bible centered messages:

2 Timothy 3:16 - The Words of Jesus by Dan Ahlenius -- Why is Da Vinci Code so deceiving? Here is the first in a series of sermons that challenge contemporary rewriting of historical evidences.

John 1:1-18 The Divinity of Jesus  by Dan Ahlenius -- At the heart of the Da Vinci Code deception is its refutation of the the true nature and identity of the Son of God. Here is the second in a series of sermons that challenge contemporary rewriting of solid Biblical theology.

Matthew 19:1-12 The Celibacy of Jesus  by Dan Ahlenius -- Was Jesus truly single? Was it possible that he was married to Mary Magdalene? Who is the imposter? Was Mary Magdalene really at the Last Supper because she was the wife of Jesus as Dan Brown suggests?

1 Corinthians 15:12-19 The Resurrection of Jesus by Dan Ahlenius -- is the fourth in his series on the Da Vinci heresy.

John 13:31-13:14 The Exclusiveness of Jesus by Dan Ahlenius -- is the fifth in his series on the Da Vinci heresy.

Breaking the Da Vinci Code: Answers to the Questions Everybody's Asking
Many who have read the New York Times best-seller The Da Vinci Code have questions that arise from seven codes - expressed or implied - in Dan Brown's book. In Breaking the Da Vinci Code, Darrell Bock, Ph.D. responds to the novelist's claims using central ancient texts and answers the following questions:

  • Who was Mary Magdalene?
  • Was Jesus Married?
  • Would Jesus Being Single be Un-Jewish?
  • Do the So-Called Secret, Gnostic Gospels Help Us Understand Jesus?
  • How Were the New Testament Gospels Assembled?
  • Does Mary's Honored Role as Apostle Match the Claims of the New School?
  • What Is the Remaining Relevance of The da Vinci Code?

Darrell Bock's research uncovers the origins of these codes by focusing on the 325 years immediately following the birth of Christ, for the claims of The Da Vinci Code rise or fall on the basis of things emerging from this period. Breaking the Da Vinci Code distinguishes fictitious entertainment from the historical elements of the Christian faith, and it is by identifying these differences that one can break the da Vinci code.

Ultimately, though, there is another code lurking behind the pages of this novel. Most readers of the novel have no idea that this other code is there. In fact Bock didn't notice it at first himself. Breaking the Da Vinci Code will lead readers to discover why this novel has become something of a public phenomenon and why the issues it raises are worthy of careful study and reflection.

In his new book, author Darrell Bock responds to the best-seller by Dan Brown, which Bock says attempts to rewrite biblical history. In Breaking the Da Vinci Code, Bock dissects Brown's novel and outlines historical and biblical reasons why he disagrees with Brown's assertion that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married.

Bock says Christians must know not only the Bible, but also the history of the Church. "And this is something most Christians know very little [about]," he says. "It's very, very important to understand this history in light of what's being said about secret gospels in numerous writings. I mean, this novel isn't the only thing that's out there."

Believers, Bock says, need to stand up against what he says is deception in Brown's novel. "This is a very important discussion, because ... when things like this come up, many Christians tend to react by saying, 'I won't listen to this, I won't have anything to do with it, I don't want to know anything about it,'" he says.

"The problem with that [attitude] is that millions of people are hearing what's being said, are being exposed to it, and are processing it."

Bock offers a more constructive way of dealing with the controversy. "A better way to handle this is not to turn your back on it and walk away, but really to engage the topic and get hold of resources that leaders in the church oftentimes will provide."

According to Bock, who is a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, many Christian colleges are teaching the same historical and biblical revisionism featured in The Da Vinci Code.
