Baptism at Zapotillo Baptist Mission

New believers are being baptized in the river in Zapotillo, Honduras, May 2007.

Jesus said, “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).

T

he ministry in Zapotillo continues to grow through the faithful ministry of Saul and Zulema.

Abide in Christ works closely with the Baptist Mission at Zapotillo. We provided funds to purchase land for a greatly needed building in which to worship. I had the opportunity of preaching there and baptizing seven of their new believers in May 2007.

Worship service at baptism in Zapotillo

Pictured are some of the members of the Baptist Mission at Zapotillo singing during the baptismal service on the river banks.

At the baptism service we sang songs of praise to the Lord for His saving grace, listened to a message from the Word of God and testimonies by those who were being baptized.

There are always lots of children at the Zapotillo mission reciting Scripture and singing.

I also had the privilege of teaching Part One of the Gospel of John to a group of pastors and church leaders at Alpha and Omega Baptist Church. In September I will teach part 2 of this course.

I also taught a course on personal evangelism to a group pastors who came in from Choluteca and San Pedro Sula.

Plans have been made to teach this course to pastors in Ocotal, Nicaragua, in September 2007.

Pastors in personal witnessing course

Pictured are pastors in one of the groups in the personal witnessing course.

In the course on personal evangelism, I have the participants divide up in groups of three and practice on one another. Each student has an opportunity to share the plan of salvation with a student while another is an observer. The method has proven effective in building confidence in witnessing before going out in the community on teams of three.

This mission trip concluded with a service at the prison in Danli and the baptism of three new believers.

Baptism of prisoners

Pictured is one of the three men baptized in prison in Danli. Over 35 prisoners have been baptised in recent years as an outreach of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church. Some are now pastors and others faithfully serve all over Honduras.

what you can do

Partnership missions gives you an opportunity to become personally involved in what God is doing in world missions.

Pray daily for the work in Honduras.

q       Pastor and Church Leadership Training Ministry in Honduras.

q                   Pray for three evangelism saturation teams to do door-to-door evangelism and rallies at night.

q                   We have prepared one-day Evangelism Workshops for churches in Latin America.  These are patterned after the personal evangelism course we teach pastors and church leaders, but are shorter.  This course has proven to be very practical and effective in personal evangelism. It was first used in Ecuador and Honduras.  The vision for training rural pastors began with this course in mind while serving as a missionary in Honduras.

q       Juan Alberto Herrera Ministry Alberto has faithfully served 18 years as a contract worker with mission teams. We agree with him that it is God’s will for him to serve as a full-time evangelist and pastor.  Juan pastors a Honduran Baptist Convention church in Danli. He is our Director for Pastor and Church Leadership Training in Honduras.

Juan Alberto Herrera is an evangelist and pastor of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church.
