God in a Cigar Factory
 Danli, Honduras

225 workers in a factory in Danli, Honduras, listen to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season . . . . be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” - 2 Timothy 4:2a, 5

This testimony of God at work in a cigar factory in no way suggests we advocate tobacco products. We simply seized the opportunity to share God’s Word. It is an example of one of many doors God is opening through our seminary extension work in Honduras. Wil takes members of the church he pastors with him on each trip. Here is another example of how God invites us to join Him in what He is doing.

G

od in a cigar factory! The thought is almost appalling. But that was God’s plan, not man’s.

It was not by “chance” that Gabe Churchwell and Juan Alberto Herrera went into a large warehouse type of building and met Javier Mendoza, the manager of a cigar manufacturing plant.

They introduced themselves and Gabe gave Señor Mendoza a Spanish New Testament. Javier told them he was an evangelical Christian and invited Gabe to return and give New Testaments to all of his employees.

Employees received New Testaments at their workstation.

Juan Alberto contacted Javier Mendoza., a fine Christian businessman.

Our team passed out New Testaments to the employees at their workstations. The plant manager called all of his employees to the front of the plant floor. He said, “You have in your hands the greatest gift you will ever receive.” Then with tears in his eyes and voice full of emotion he said, “Please listen very carefully as Wil Pounds shares the message of the Bible.”

It all began when Gabe Churchwell wanted a tour of a cigar factory.

For the next fifteen minutes, Wil shared with the employees the Roman Road beginning with John 3:16. You could have heard a pin drop as the audience hung on to every word.

This was one of those incredible moments when there was a powerful moving of the Holy Spirit with Christian believers praying, people crying, and people making decisions for Christ.

Wil Pounds seized the opportunity to preach the Good News in Jesus Christ to 225 employees. Many people made decisions for Christ.

At the close of the message Juan Alberto led in a sinner’s prayer and gave an invitation. Javier made a public promise to his employees to help them in their commitment to Christ. “This is a great day for our factory. I am here to help you in your walk with Christ.”

A total of 250 Spanish New Testaments were distributed in the factory. Please pray for the spiritual growth of those who received these Bibles.

what you can do

Partnership missions gives you an opportunity to become personally involved in what God is doing in world missions.

Pray daily for the work in Honduras.

To reduce costs for seminary courses, we will not build buildings in Honduras but operate out of existing churches or church assembly grounds. Juan Alberto Herrera will coordinate the work and provide logistics in Honduras. We will teach 40-50 classroom hours, provide cost of textbooks, teaching materials, etc. for the students.

Current Needs:

q       Seminary Extension Ministry in Honduras.

q       Juan Alberto Herrera Ministry Alberto has faithfully served 18 years as a contract worker with mission teams. We agree with him that it is God’s will for him to serve as a full-time evangelist and pastor. Juan pastors missions in Danli that cooperate with the Honduran Baptist Convention.

q       Pray for the Lord’s direction and provision regarding an invitation from pastors and church leaders to teach our courses in Ocotal, Nicaragua.

Juan Alberto Herrera, with daughter Ashley, is an evangelist and pastor of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church. He serves as Director for Seminary Extension in Honduras.
